PET THERAPY: Pet Power Program

Pet Power is a form of Animal Assisted Therapy - a growing practice in which pets are enrolled to help people in various ways. The SCHS Pet Power program involves volunteers taking shelter pets to nursing homes in Montrose, CO to visit with the residents there

Animal Assisted Therapy programs have been researched to provide many positive physical health benefits for people with problems like high blood pressure and other heart risks, as well as emotional issues such as depression and anxiety.

Pet Power is quite remarkable and many people are astounded by how well pets can work wonders with people in need. Also, the SCHS Shelter pets really thrive in this program, getting out of the shelter and socializing with people is so invigorating and rewarding to them too!
