Resources to Assist You in Placing a Pet
In the event that you must surrender a pet there are resources available to assist you in finding a suitable home.  Although the Humane Society is there to assist in any way possible, the primary responsibility for placing your pet remains yours. Finding a suitable home can take considerable time.  Waiting to the last minute puts your pet at risk for not having a home at all!

Humane Societies and Shelters:
The Second Chance Humane Society is often aware of people looking for a dog or cat. A call to us may be the best thing to happen to your pet. We are also there to assist you in resolving issues, like excessive barking or behavioral problems that may be causing you to consider the surrender of your pet. Due to our limited foster home resources, we cannot be relied upon as a last minute solution to your pet placement problem. (970)626-CARE (2273)

The Montrose Animal Shelter may have leads on people looking for a pet.  They also maintain a “wish list” that enables people to identify specific breeds or types of animals they are interested in adopting.  Generally, they will not accept a surrendered animal.  (970)240-1487
